Most of us who compete in any horse discipline dream of one day owning, training and riding that "perfect" horse. Rommy was as near to perfect as anyone could wish - truly that "once in a lifetime horse".
His temperament and trainability were faultless and we all knew that he was glory bound.
Words cannot express
the emptiness that those who loved him now feel. He has left a legacy of wonderful young horses bearing his unmistakable stamp so perhaps in the future there will be another rising young star with the same combination of temperament, attitude and talent....we can only hope.
Northern Romulus left us with a very stunning son, Bravo Romulus who has been purchased by the stud and we have also retained mares by him to continue his lines in our breeding programme.
Rommy competed very successfully with FEI rider Gerry Wellington. His last two competitions were the Spring Championships in October 2002 at which he was Medium Champion and the Fleurieu Dressage Festival, only two weeks before he died, where he won the Advanced.
He started competing FEI level at nine years old but unfortunately died of complications following colic surgery just a few months after his debut in Prix St Georges, cutting short a very promising career.
Romulus excelled in his very short career in breed classes. He competed at Gawler A.H.& F. Society Annual Show in 2000 to win all classes entered, including Ridden Stallion, and was awarded Champion Stallion/Colt In Show (from a final class of seven breeds) and was given a Special Award for his achievements. Several weeks later he then went on to The Royal Adelaide Show where he also won all of his classes and was awarded Champion Warmblood Entire/Colt for 2000. As his owner is not an "in hand" person, we decided to retired on that note.
